Dr. Youfa Wang (Chair)

Dr. Wang is the Endowed Chair of Wellness of John and Janice Fisher, Associate Director of the Fisher Institute of Health and Well-being, and Professor of Nutrition and Health Science in the College of Health, Ball State University. He is also the founding dean of the Xi’an Jiaotong University Global Health Institute and an Adjunct Professor in Johns Hopkins University, Fudan University, and Tianjin Medical University. Previously, he was the Professor of Epidemiology, Environmental Health and Pediatrics, Department Chair, and a Program Director in the State University of New York at Buffalo, and the Founding Director of the Global Center on Childhood Obesity and Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Wang was recently chosen as the recipient of the 2016 China Health Policy and Management Society (CHPAMS) Inspiration Award, based on his impressive research achievements, significant scientific contributions, and leadership. He is dedicated to promoting international collaboration, supporting for young scholars’ career development, and outstanding leadership and contributions in multiple international and domestic organizations and top universities such as Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Wang has been an expert consultant of the World Health Organization and the United Nations, Chair of The Obesity Society (TOS) Pediatric Obesity Section (in North America) and Vice Chair of the Chinese Prevention Medicine Association Global Health Section. He has served as the Chair of the American Society for Nutrition Nutritional Epidemiology Section and as the President of the North America Chinese Society for Nutrition.

As an internationally known expert, Dr. Wang has over 220 publications, including more than 170 peer reviewed papers, and many are published in top journals such as Lancet, Circulation, JAMA and Obesity Review. His work is widely cited with some over 2000 citation. Over the past 15 years, he has obtained around 23 million NIH research grants, including multiple R01 grants and a 16 million NIH U54 center grant (“Systems-Oriented Pediatric Obesity Research and Training (SPORT) Center of Excellence”) as the principle investigator (PI). He has fostered and established several large research projects through interdisciplinary and international collaboration, which demonstrates his strong research leadership and productivity. His key research interests include epidemiology, nutrition, childhood obesity, chronic diseases, global health, nutrition database, systems models, and mHealth.
